G20 Summit: 'It's special,' says UK PM Rishi Sunak on 'son-in-law of India' reference

Rishi Sunak landed in Delhi on Friday for the G20 Leaders' Summit and said, "It's obviously special" as he joked about being referred to as the "son-in-law of India." He was accompanied with his wife Akshata Murty. They both were welcomed by Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs Ashwini Kumar Choubey.

United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak landed in India with his wife Akshata Murty for the G-20 Summit in New Delhi on Friday. They both were welcomed by Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs Ashwini Kumar Choubey. While leaving for New Delhi from London, the Indian-origin leader said, ‘It’s Special as Son-in-Law of India”.

Before leaving for New Delhi, he said, “I haven’t been back for a few years. I was meant to go actually in 2020 – we take our family typically in February half-term every year." He further said, "I got made Chancellor right before so I didn’t get to go with the rest of my family. It’s obviously special. I saw somewhere that I was referred to as India’s son-in-law, which I hope was meant affectionately”.

I’ve landed in Delhi ahead of the summit.

Rishi Sunak is the son-in-law of Narayan Murthy. He is married to Narayan Murthy’s daughter Akshata Murthy.
