EC transfers senior Bengal cop as his wife contests polls

The Election Commission on Wednesday (March 17) transferred Superintendent of Police, Howrah (Rural) Saumya Roy to a non-election related post after his wife has been declared Trinamool Congress’s candidate for Sonarpur Dakshin assembly seat.
 


The Election Commission on Wednesday (March 17) transferred Superintendent of Police, Howrah (Rural) Saumya Roy to a non-election related post after his wife has been declared Trinamool Congress’s candidate for Sonarpur Dakshin assembly seat.

The election commission has now appointed Shrihari Pandey as SP of Howrah.

The election commission also asked the West Bengal chief secretary to confirm that all senior officials involved with the works of elections have given the certificate that they are not a close relative of any of the election candidates in the current assembly polls.

The West Bengal chief secretary was asked to inform the commission if there are such cases reported in the state.

The eight-phase election schedule for the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly starting from March 27 and going on till April 29.
