Shivamogga: While the nation celebrated the festival of lights, a group of men set a firecracker on a dog’s tail alight. The group of men can be seen petting the dog at first, while another lights  the firecracker.

The gang even went on to film the act, the video of which is now viral.

Police are trying to identify the gang based on the vehicle number that is visible in the video. However, initial reports suggest that the bike belongs to Umesh and his son has denied his role in the act as he was allegedly in temple when the incident took place.

As per the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, killing, poisoning, maiming or torturing an animal is a cognizable offence under Section 428 and Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code.
