In the fourth leopard attack in Goregaon's Aarey Colony in suburban Mumbai, a 55-year-old woman identified as Nirmaladevi Singh was injured on Wednesday evening. The incident took place at around 7:45 pm and CCTV footage showed the leopard lurking in the shadows while the woman sat down on the verandah. Soon the leopard pounced on her and Nirmaladevi Singh fought off the big cat with a stick. She suffered scratch marks on her face, elbow, arm, back and leg. However, the injuries were not serious as the leopard left soon after she started shouting for help.
The forest officials suspect that the recent attacks are being carried out by a single leopard, who is around two years old. This was the second leopard attack in the last three days. On Sunday, a four-year-old boy was saved from a leopard by his 25-year-old uncle.
