Roadside dust and silt contribute to over 15% of air pollution in Bengaluru. The BBMP has deployed Rs 18 lakh worth machines to clear the killer dust. By deploying these machines, BBMP wants to prevent a polluted atmosphere

Dust and silt by the roadside that keeps motorists and pedestrians in Bengaluru irritated, will be gone in coming days as the BBMP has procured 17 mechanical sweepers.

According to D Randeep, Special Commissioner, Solid Waste Management Department, BBMP, each machine costs Rs 18 lakh. The BBMP has floated a tender for an agency that will operate and maintain the machinery for seven years.

The BBMP will deploy two machines in each of its zones. These machines will not disrupt traffic.

As many major and arterial roads face this dust and silt menace, the BBMP will be able to provide motorists some respite.
