CCTV cameras on BMTC buses plying on priority lane to check unruly motorists

Bengaluru: The BMTC has come up with a solution to curb its priority bus lane encroachment menace by installing CCTV cameras into 20 buses that ply on the 17km stretch between Tin Factory and Central Silk Board.

According to BMTC officials, private vehicles like two-wheelers, cabs, and autorickshaws are usually found in BMTC lanes. This unruly behaviour from private vehicle owners has led to passengers of BMTC suffering delays while reaching office or home.

The new system in place will have data captured from CCTV uploaded on cloud and the same will be shared with traffic police.

Issuing notices and penalising such owners for violating lane discipline will act at deterrent.

In the first phase, 20 buses will be fitted with CCTV cameras and another 20 will be added later.
