Bengaluru: Authorities intensify drive to tackle COVID-19 spread; Rs 57.39 lakh fine collected in June

Warning citizens of increase in number of cases due to irresponsible behaviour and not heeding to COVID-19 related rules, BBMP Commissioner BH Anil Kumar also remarked that the “city is relatively safer".

To instil discipline, the BBMP, which empowered marshals, and police booked violators and imposed fines on them. In June, 27,421 citizens were fined for not wearing masks and 1,267 were fined for not maintaining distance.

With fines, the BBMP also netted Rs 57.39 lakh. According to the BBMP commissioner, Bengaluru just escaped a COVID-19 explosion, but he warned the public stating if they show negligence, the situation will be similar to that of Mumbai and Chennai which have registered over 50,000 cases.
