Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked billionaire businessman Bill Gates hours after the latter endorsed the recently-launched Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

Reacting to the message, Prime Minister Modi said that there was immense scope in leveraging technology for the betterment of health infrastructure and India was working hard in this direction.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission was launched on September 27 to ensure a seamless online platform that will allow interoperability within the digital health ecosystem.
Under the scheme, which will connect the digital health solutions of hospitals across the country with each other, every citizen will now get a digital health ID with a 14-digit number.
The government has assured that patients' health records will be digitally protected.

To get access to a digital health ID, individuals can download and register on the ABMD Health Records app on their smartphones or they can physically register for the same at government hospitals, community health centres and accredited health facilities.
Once registered, individuals can access their complete health records. Thereafter they could provide consent for sharing their health records in case they need hospitalisation. This facilitates each admission into hospitals.
Moreover, people also have the option of deleting or deactivating their health IDs. The government claims that upon deletion, the records of the patient will cease to exist.
Seeking to bring about a revolutionary change in India's health facilities, the scheme will not only simplify the processes at hospitals but also increase the ease of living.
