Government of Nigeria logs on to India's Koo after banning Twitter

The Nigerian government's decision to join Koo could help the Indian platform consolidate its position as an alternative to Twitter.
 


Days after Nigeria banned the micro-blogging platform Twitter, the country's government now has an account on India-based alternative Koo.

The Nigerian government's Koo entry comes days after the app co-founder and CEO Aprameya Radhakrishna reached out, announcing his intent to host it on his platform.

In a tweet announcing the Nigerian government’s arrival, Koo co-founder and CEO Aprameya Radhakrishna wrote: "A very warm welcome to the official handle of the Government of Nigeria on @kooindia! Spreading wings beyond India now."

Nigeria had banned Twitter after the platform took off a post of President Muhammadu Buhari on the grounds that it in violation of the company's abusive behaviour policy. A fuming Nigeria banned Twitter indefinitely on June 2, claiming that the platform was being persistently used for actions that can undermine the country's corporate existence
