External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discusses Afghanistan situation with UK counterpart

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his UK counterpart Dominic Raab had a detailed discussions on the situation unfolding after exit of US and allies forces from the strife-hit country, Afghanistan.

It was third time that the two ministers discussed Afghanistan crisis in length since the country fell to Taliban on August 15.

Prior to this, the two leaders talked on August 19 and August 15.

“Nice speaking again to UK Foreign Secretary @DominicRaab. Conversation focused on Afghanistan related developments,” Jaishankar tweeted.

Besides, they also discussed India and the UK bilateral relations and the ways to further strengthen it.

“Good to talk with Foreign Minister @DrSJaishankar today to discuss how UK & India can work together to support the people of Afghanistan. We are committed to stopping Afghanistan becoming a terrorist haven, responding to the humanitarian plight, & safeguarding regional stability,” Raab said.

India is reaching out to all its friendly foreign countries in the wake of evolving situation in Afghanistan. 

He also had a discussion with his Iranian, Canadian and Omani counterparts.

“A warm congratulatory call to Iranian FM @Amirabdolahian. Agreed to strengthen our bilateral cooperation. Discussed pressing regional issues,” he said.

He also thanked Tehran for extending support during repatriation drive of stranded Indians.

“Appreciate Iran's facilitation of our repatriation flights from Afghanistan,” he added.

“Good to talk to Omani Foreign Minister @badralbusaidi. Discussed Afghanistan and Covid. Thank Oman for supporting our repatriation flights,” he added.
