The Pakistan Prime Minister once again sought to paint India in a negative light when he claimed that Syed Ali Geelani, who he termed as Kashmiri freedom fighter, suffered incarceration and torture by India.

Curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in Kashmir after Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani passed away on Wednesday night. The 92-year-old separatist was buried in Srinagar’s Hyderpora area at 4:37 am this morning.

Geelani, who was a pro-Pakistan separatist leader and led the Hurriyat movement for over two decades, had reportedly been suffering from age-related issues.

Heavy deployment of security forces was seen around Geelani's residence. Mobile internet was temporarily shut down in the Valley as a precautionary measure.

He co-founded the Hurriyat Conference, but broke ranks after ideological differences and set up his own Tehreek-e-Hurriyat in early 2000 which he led till June last year,

Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa mourned Geelani’s death over Twitter. Imran said that his country will observe a day of mourning and its national flag will fly at half-mast.

We in Pakistan salute his courageous struggle & remember his words: "Hum Pakistani hain aur Pakistan Humara hai". The Pakistan flag will fly at half mast and we will observe a day of official mourning.

The Pakistan Prime Minister once again sought to paint India in a negative light when he claimed that Syed Ali Geelani, who he termed as Kashmiri freedom fighter, suffered incarceration and torture by India.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi too passed controversial remarks against India. Calling Geelani the torchbearer of Kashmir's freedom movement, Qureshi said that the former fought for the rights of Kashmiris till the very end, under house arrest.

Lashing out at Qureshi, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that Pakistan had indeed lost proxy of its intelligence agency ISI operating in India to radicalise innocent Kashmiris in the name of Jihad.

Mr. Qureshi, with this, you indeed lost a proxy of your intelligence agency working in India to radicalise innocent Kashmiris in the name of Jihad. Your nation & all your proxies shall go down in history for killing innocent Kashmiris.https://t.co/40TpVwzoQ8

To recall, Geelani had for the longest period of his Hurriyat tenure rejected any dialogue with India over the future of Kashmir.
