"India is the largest vaccine-producing country in the world. They have got to get their resources... other countries need to chip in to be able to either get supplies for the Indians to make their vaccines or to get vaccines donated," Dr Fauci said.
The United States top public health expert and White House Chief Medical Adviser Dr Anthony Fauci has once again stressed on the need for India to scale up Covid-19 vaccine production while asserting that getting people vaccinated was the only long-term solution to overcoming the second wave of Coronavirus.
Speaking to television channel ABC News, Dr Fauci said that the endgame of this is to get people vaccinated.
"India is the largest vaccine-producing country in the world. They have got to get their resources... other countries need to chip in to be able to either get supplies for the Indians to make their vaccines or to get vaccines donated," Dr Fauci said.
"One of the ways to do that is to have the big companies that have the capability of making vaccines to really scale up in a great way to get hundreds of millions of doses literally to be able to get to them," he added.
The Joe Biden administration has already announced that it will immediately make the raw materials needed for India's coronavirus vaccine production available.
The administration announced $100 million in assistance to India to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. As many as six aircraft loaded with Covid-19 aid have landed in India.
Allaying fears that patent waivers will impact the supply chain and set back the vaccine production effort, Dr Fauci said: "They have done an extraordinary amount. You have got to give them credit. They have just really done something quite impressive in how they have gotten their vaccine supply up and out for the rest of the world. I think the waiving of the patents and the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property is not going to interfere with that right now necessarily."
