After attack on an Indian Army convoy in Manipur in 2015, the government had designated the group as a terrorist organization under the UAPA.

In an effort to contain the insurgent groups along the border areas of the two countries, Indian Army chief Gen MM Naravane and foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited Myanmar in October last year.

During their visit, the two sides agreed to further deepen overall military and defence relations.

Post their visit, the report suggests that the overall coordination and cooperation between two neighbouring countries have tremendously improved.

India and Myanmar share a 1,640-km-long border with a number of northeastern states. It is India’s one of strategic neighbours.

Other than this, all Naga groups are holding talks with the government to resolve the decade-long issues.

In August this year, the Assam Rifles had nabbed four militants belonging to this group near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Tinsukia district.

In July, two cadres of the same group were killed in an encounter in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

In a major development, five of its cadres had surrendered in April this year before the security forces.
