Yahoo! sends its monkey to Facebook

Synopsis

Yahoo’s virtual pet monkey, which hasn't been seen since 2010 as the company discontinued it, has now been added to Facebook's Messenger for making the visual experience of the app stronger.

'Yahoo! SearchMonkey' was designed by the technology major to make online search easier and eye catching.

In case you have never used a 'Monkey' bot, 'SearchMonkey' was a virtual pet which enabled users to send emojis to it. The bot then shared the images from its "travels", like a Tamagotchi (an electronic toy displaying a digital picture of a creature).

The other two features, Yahoo News and Yahoo Weather, look to aid Facebook users to stay updated with the latest news and get weather updates in a similar way it functioned in the Yahoo! website.

Entering Facebook’s user database will give Yahoo! an opportunity to boost exposure for several other services. It has more than 11,000 chatbots ready for subscribers.

This is not the first attempt by Yahoo! to enter a social networking arena, as it has already made itself visible on Kik Messenger.
