Verdict
Though the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xiaomi Mi 6 cater to different price brackets, there are some similarities that one cannot simply miss.
Samsung Galaxy S8 poses a stylish design and the highlight is the bezel-less Infinite Display. It sports a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 529ppi. On the other hand, the Mi 6 sports a Full HD display, with pixel density up to 428 ppi. It also has a dual edge curved display.
The India variant of the S8 will be powered by Exynos 8895, while some other regions like the US get Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. The Xiaomi Mi 6 is also powered by 835. Both are the latest and almost at par, but the Exynos 8895 is believed to be slightly better.
Samsung promises a Dual Pixel display, and there's no doubt about the quality of images it can offer. Xiaomi has also upped the ante with its dual camera and a set of accompanying camera functions. It also has a slightly better battery, on paper. Samsung offers high-quality water resistance, while the Mi 6 claims to be splash resistant, but hasn't mentioned any rating. Samsung also brings more biometric options, a new digital assistant and bundles superior headphones.
However, it is the pricing that will make a huge difference. The China price for the Mi 6 is RMB 2499, which is approx Rs 24,000. If Xiaomi adds a couple of thousands more, it will still come at a price half of that of the Samsung Galaxy S8. Samsung clearly has a superior set of specs, but Xiaomi Mi 6 is a value for money package.
