The second wave of COVID-19 has hit us really hard, and the smartphone brands are getting affected by it.
The month of May has seen no launches yet, and the ones which were scheduled to be launched in the second half of this month has also got postponed. The brands including Realme, Poco, Xiaomi, Vivo, Asus, Realme, Samsung, Micromax are delaying their expected smartphones because of the limited market demand due to COVID-19.
Asus Zenfone 8 series was scheduled to launch on May 12, but they deferred the date. Asus spokesperson said, "Asus India's top priority in these challenging times is the safety of our customers, partners, employees and all other stakeholders in the fight against the virus. Hence we have consciously decided to defer the launch until the current scenario improves."
A Realme spokesperson revealed to ET that they have cancelled their Realme X7 Max 5G launch and now planning for the day when it can launch.
Poco said, "With an intent to cause minimal disruption in our community's lives, we have consciously decided to not launch anything in the month of May and wait for the current scenario to improve. We understand that these are extremely challenging times for all of us."
Research analysts are saying that Indian brands are postponing their launches, keeping in mind the mentality of their consumers and the environment in the market right now because of the COVID-19. Once things get better, we might see series of launches.
