Google, headquartered in Mountain View, California, finally introduced a dark option for Search on desktop. The modification was discovered as early as December 2020, but it is now being sent out to all users. Google is rolling out the update in stages, with all users receiving it "over the following several weeks." Google announced the news in a blog post. Users may access the new dark theme by navigating to the settings menu. According to media reports, some users have discovered a sun symbol that can be used to turn it on or off without visiting the settings page.

Users may find the dark theme by heading to Settings > Search Settings > Appearance and choosing "dark." There's also a "device default" option that automatically alters the theme based on your device's settings. According to reports, some users have seen a sun symbol that will be used to toggle on and off. However, it is unclear whether this is an actual component of the update or simply another test. Users have three options in the new "Appearance" settings: Device default, Dark theme, and Light theme.

Google stated in a blog post that Search pages contain, among other things, the Google homepage, search results page, and Search settings. On desktop, the dark grey backdrop will show whenever users are signed in with their Google Account. Google has also recognised that this feature has been requested by users and stated that the Search dark theme would be completely accessible in the coming weeks. The functionality is being tested on mobile as well, although it has not yet been released.
