The theatre owners said that they would accept the decision of the government in setting up a team to discuss on the entertainment tax issue. Following this the theatres were opened from this morning, i.e., July 7.
On July 6, 2017 the theatre owners met the ministers such as SP Velumani, T Jayakumar, KC Veeramani and Kadambur Raju to discuss on this issue.
Later, the president of Tamil Film Chamber of Commerce, Abirami Ramanathan said, “1200 theatres were shut down for the fourth day, leading to the loss of Rs.20 Cr for one day. Despite this, we continued the strike. We did not have a choice. Now the government has seemed to understand our problems.
He further said,“A decision has been made during the discussion on July 6. The chief minister has met us three to four times. Even today, we were invited for the discussion. A team has been set up to figure out a solution. This team comprises of 6 members representing the government and 8 members representing the theatre owners. I am sure that we will get a positive result as the government stands in support of us. The decision to open the theatres was made unanimously”
