After a month-long intense Latin American football action, the Copa America 2021 conducted its third-place playoff between Colombia and Peru at the Estádio Nacional de Brasília on Friday. While it turned out to be an intense clash, Colombia edged out, thanks to Luis Diaz. In the same light, we look at how it all happened.
First half
The opening half saw strong attacks from both sides, with a total of eight attempts being registered, including a save from Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese. The final attack of the half saw Yoshimar Yotun put Peru ahead in the 45th minute, as the side led at half-time.
Second half
In the next half, it was an all-out attack from both. In the 49th minute, Juan Cuadrado drew level, while Luis Diaz gave Colombia the lead 17 minutes later.
However, Peru was not done yet, as Gianluca Lapadula levelled it in the 82nd minute. The final few minutes turned out to be even intense, only for Diaz to break the Peruvian hearts in the injury time and seal Colombia's third place.
