Cauvery Management Board will take over all reservoirs in the Cauvery basin Karnataka can no longer make decisions on holding or releasing water from its reservoirs
It was a large shock to Karnataka after the two-member bench of the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for seven days. Also, in a complete disadvantage to Karnataka, it asked the Centre to form the Cauvery Management Board.
Here are the reasons why Karnataka is against the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board:
If the Cauvery Management Board is constituted, Karnataka will lose all rights regarding the river.
All decisions on water-sharing will be taken by the Centre as the Board is constituted by it.
The Centre to appoint chiefs and members of the Board.
All reservoirs in the Cauvery basin will come under the Board.
Membership to water experts from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.
