Two houses have collapsed in Pulakeshinagar after the Prestige Group dug a 50 feet deep pit without legal permission to construct a 21 storied apartment building in the area. According to locals, the construction caused cracks in the walls of neighbouring houses. While two houses collapsed, five more houses are on the verge of collapsing.
The locals further claim that the Prestige Group has neither taken permission from the corporation nor has bothered to take precautionary measures while constructing the building. Around 10 families who are residing near the construction site have already started vacating their houses after they noticed cracks on the walls.
According to the corporation, they had given permission to dig only 40 feet but the builder took the liberty to dig more than 50 feet. “We felt our house shaking at around 5.30 am and soon we found cracks appearing on the walls. Immediately we all rushed out of the house. After we came out, we saw the house leaning towards the deep pit and collapsed in front of our eyes,” Rahamat Ulla, a resident of Pulakeshinagar said.
“Even after serving two notices against them for digging the pit without any precautionary measures, the builder went ahead with the construction. Now we are going to lodge a complaint against the builder. We had even sent notices to the neighbouring houses and warned them to vacate the houses immediately. But they too did not bother to our preventative advice,” Hanumantharayappa, AEE, Pulakeshinagar said.
The locals also claimed that the group continued with the construction even after both the houses collapsed. However, they were forced to stop the construction after the locals protested. Soon after which the corporation officers came to the spot and issued a notice to stop the work. The locals are also demanding a compensation
