The investigation into senior police officer MK Ganapathy's suicide has transcended to another level when the government and DySP's widow started waging verbal wars.
In the legislative assembly on Monday, state Home minister G Parameshwara submitted a report stating, "“When Ganapathy was working in Bengaluru, he and his wife Pavana lived separately. When the officer was promoted and deputed to Mangaluru, she ill-treated her husband. Ganapathy’s father has given a written complaint of his son's unhappy family life. Even his brothers MK Thammaiah and MK Machayya have confirmed that Ganapathy was depressed."
Kushalappa, Ganapathy's father denied the home minister's claims.
“The police needed family’s permission for the procedures and so I signed the letter of permission. I was not in a position to read the content as I was shocked by my son’s death. I have not given any written complaint to the police. I urge the government to take action on the basis of my son’s last video,” he said.
Ganapathy's wife Pavana was shocked over the minister's accusations.
Clarifying the reasons for living separately, Pavana said, "My husband was transferred often and uprooting our children's lives every time he had to move, didn't seem fair. So we lived separately. Is that wrong?"
“Like every married couple we too had our differences of opinion but we understood each other. If my husband had committed suicide because of family issues, he would have done it long before, not after 20 years of marriage,” said Pavana.
She added, "When I am grieving for my loss, these politicians are commenting on my character and questioning my integrity. Do they want my family to commit suicide too? These culprits are ruining my reputation to protect some politicians.”
Pavana has filed a complaint against the minister, today, with the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission and the Karnataka State Commission for Women.
