A Keralite woman, who was suspected to have joined the ISIS camp in Syria along with her husband and their two-year-old child, contacted her family in Kasaragod on Sunday evening. She told them that they went in search of a job and not to join the terrorist organisation.

In a voice call made via the internet, Rafeela, a native of Kasargod informed her family back home that she along with her husband Dr Ejas and 2-year-old child left the country in search of a job and not for joining the terror outfit.

However, Rafeela did not divulge her whereabouts. She said they are safe and found new jobs. The family has handed over the details of her call to the investigative team, which is trying to zero in on the exact location from where the call was made.

District Panchayat member VPP Mustaffa told Asianet News that the message was received on Sunday night and it was sent via a mobile app 'Telegram.' In the message, Rafeela said that they would start new jobs soon. The District Panchayat member said that the message does not confirm the suspicions over their joining the ISIS. It needs more investigation before jumping into any conclusion.

Rafeela and family are among the 16 who were reported missing from Padanna in Kasaragod. So far, 21 people have mysteriously disappeared from various parts of the state, according to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Currently, central investigative agencies are also investigating the case.
