Neralu is a Tree festival in Bengaluru. The two-day festival kickstarts at Cubbon Park Metro Station this Saturday. It will include tree walks, workshops and more.
Neralu means shade in Kannada. The Tree festival paves way for citizens of Bengaluru to come together once a year to celebrate the wide diversity, aesthetics, functionality, ecology, histories and our memories of our city’s trees.
With the massive urbanisation and unplanned extension of Bangalore, which is both public and private, has led to mindless, socially inconsiderate, ecologically unfriendly and inefficient infrastructure. In the bargain, the city has lost many precious avenue trees & parks, making it a much need urban tree festival for citizens.
The Neralu Tree festival kickstarts on 18 February, Saturday at the Cubbon Park Metro Station. Cubbon Park Metro Station and Cubbon Park will be alive with tree-inspired art and activities.
It's a two-day festival and on 19 February, Sunday, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) will play host. The festival begins with Tree walks, which literally means walking with trees and appreciating the value of avenue tress. It will include walks, talks, workshops and even tree-related quizzes. There will be a soothing stories session under the setting sun.
The tree walks will be a blend of knowledge, understanding their importance, along with sprinklings of history, mythology, natural history and more. Though the tree walks are in English, many of our facilitators are fluent in local languages, and could help if necessary.
