Actor cum MLC Dr. Jayamala, has submitted the report of sex workers study committee to the government on Monday, February 13. She is the chairman of the committee.
In the report the committee has suggested the government the rehabilitation and distribution of Antyodaya ration cards to HIV infected patients. The committee has also urged the government to take strict action to prevent human trafficking.
The committee has prepared its report objectively, obtaining information from sex workers of 179 taluks from across all the 30 districts of the state. The committee has appealed the government to release ₹ 733 crores for the implementation of its suggestions.
The committee had sent 17600 questionnaires to all the parts of the state and had obtained 11300 responses. It has met more than 3000 sex workers individually and obtained details from them.
“There is an example of such a study in Uganda where the committee had met 2500 people who are the victims of sex assault and prepared its report. Now this report of Karnataka government, which is more comprehensive and massive, has exceeded this record by communicating more than 3000 thousand people” – Jayamala, Chairman of the committee
The committee has put a time limit of 5 years for the implementation of its suggestions. Jayamala told that CM Siddaramaiah appreciated the endeavour of the committee and responded positively for its recommendations.
