Mandya farmers observe I-Day as black day

Synopsis

Protesting various policies including releasing of water to Tamil Nadu and national water policy, a farmers group led by Raitha Sangha staged a stir wearing black badges and holding black flags.

 

The protest was held in the premises of Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium at Mandya by the district administration.

 

The farmers' organisations through their peaceful protest attracted many people who had gathered for the Independence Day programme.

 

Protesters demanded proper supply of water to channels in Karnataka, to stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu and to form all-inclusive national water policy.

 

The farmers also pressed to re-open Mysugar factory in the district.
