Respecting others' freedom is true patriotism: CM Siddaramaiah

Synopsis

Addressing a huge audience at the Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru after hoisting the Indian flag, Siddaramaiah paid homage to Karnataka's freedom fighters and martyrs.

Karnataka has played an important role in the Indian freedom struggle. Fighters such as Sangolli Rayanna, Aloor Venkat Rao, Hardikar Manjappa and others have sacrificed their lives and we should never forget what they have done for the country, he said.

Speaking about the need of the hour, he said, “Education should encourage people to be rational beings. Hatred and jealousy can destroy a nation. To build a nation, we need love and harmony. The recent attacks on Dalits are a matter of concern. There is a need to fight for the rights of people.”

Giving details of the achievements of the government towards the welfare of people, he said, “We have tried to fulfil our promises. We aim to build 15 lakh houses for the needy by the time our tenure ends. We have extended the deadline to pay the loans as people are suffering due to drought. The interest on loans taken from cooperative banks has been waived off.”

“We are not a pseudo pro-farmer government. We have worked towards their welfare and stand by our words to support them,” said Siddaramaiah in his Independence Day speech.
