Kerala woman dies of burn injuries from black magic

Synopsis

The victim approached Najima seeking remedy for her personal problems During the ritual, Najima poured petrol into the fire pit Police arrested her and was remanded under judicial custody for 14 days

A 27-year-old woman who sustained burn injuries during the performance of an alleged black magic died at a private hospital in Kozhikode. 
 

The deceased, Shameena, a native of Nadapuram, had suffered 70% injuries after the fire set for the ritual caught her dress. Police arrested Najima, 37, who allegedly performed black magic claiming she would solve the personal problems of the victim. 
 

Najima had created a fire pit for performing the ritual. The fire broke out after she poured some petrol into the fire and it flared up resulting in the tragedy. 
 

Police registered a case under Sections 324, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, and 308, attempt to commit culpable homicide, of the IPC. She was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. 
 

Najima had been performing black magic for several years, the police said. 
 

An 18-year-old girl had died in Pathanamthitta in 2014, after she suffered over 40 wounds, including burn marks, during the performance of a black magic ritual.
