Kerala doctors to go on indefinite strike from July 7

Government doctors in Kerala have called for a strike on 7 July to protest the lack of action by authorities to nab the culprits who manhandled the doctor at Arukutti Primary Health Centre in Alappuzha district.
The strike was announced by the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) and Indian Medical Association (IMA).
Government doctors in Alappuzha district are already on strike over the issue. The sudden strike called in by the doctors will handicap the functioning of government hospitals and primary health centres, except Government Medical College, in the district.
With the onset of monsoon, people across the state are suffering from fever and other diseases. Unaware of the agitation called in by the doctors, several patients coming to the hospital had to later seek medical assistance at private hospitals.
According to local reports, the doctors association has decided to strengthen it protests demanding the arrest of attackers. The decision will have a major impact on the healthcare sector in the state.
