A year after 50% hike, Karnataka's legislators ask for second raise

Synopsis

 

Last year the salaries of Karnataka's legislators was hiked by 50%. Before that the salaries were revised in 2011 and in 2015 successively. Within four years, the salaries and other benefits of our MLAs and MLCs have doubled.

 

But our legislators say that this salary is not sufficient for them and are demanding a hike this year as well. They have sent a letter to the Speaker in this regard.

 

Shivalinge Gowda, MLA of Arasikere, BB Ningaiah, MLA of Mudigere, HK Kumara Swamy, MLA of Sakaleshpura, and other MLAs have submitted the letter.

 

In the letter, they have demanded a raise on the ₹1.4 lakh salary that they are paid every month.
