Synopsis

The 68-year-old Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa filed her nomination this afternoon from R K Nagar constituency here for the May 16 Assembly election. She is a sitting MLA of the constituency.

 

Hundreds of enthusiastic party workers and people greeted her en route to the electoral office before she filed her nomination.

 

DMK chief M Karunanidhi filed his nomination papers with the Tiruvarur constituency Returning Officer Muthu Meenakshi. The 93-year-old former five-time Chief Minister is seeking re-election from Tiruvarur.

 

He has won in all the assembly elections he has so far contested since his debut at Kulithalai in 1957. He is scheduled to address an election rally here this evening.
