Ready to recruit Devaswom staff, says Kerala PSC

Synopsis

The Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) has positively responded to a suggestion by Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran to hand over the recruitments to temples under the Devaswom Board to the Commission.

K S Radhakrishnan, Chairman of the KPSC, an autonomous body, has said that the Commission is willing to conduct the recruitment to temples and other institution under the Devaswom Board.

Minister Kadakampally Surendran had revealed government's intention to entrust the appointments to Devaswom Board with the KPSC. "The recruitment board established by UDF government is a 'white elephant," the minister had said.

V S Achuthanandan ministry had decided to leave Devaswom recruitment to the KPSC following allegations of corruption in the process. However, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government that assumed office in 2011 set up a  Devaswom Recruitment Board, a separate body to carry out the recruitment to temples under the Devaswom Board.

One the KPSC take up the recruitment, it would be looking after the appointments of Devaswom staff except 'Kaaraymakkar' or those who have traditional rights to perform certain rites and function in temples.
