Flipkart expressing interest in setting shop at Bangalore Metro stations has become old news. But that might not be all, as now it has emerged that the Indian e-commerce giant wants to use the Bangalore Metro to ferry its goods.

According to a report published in The New Indian Express, Flipkart is exploring the possibility of running a metro 'goods train' as early as 5 am to transport their materials from one point to another. The report, however, said that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation is yet to discuss the proposition formally.

BMRC management is yet to discuss such a possibility officially. However, if it becomes a reality, BMRCL plans to charge Flipkart depending on the volume and weight of goods, the report said.

In the meantime, Flipkart has confirmed that it is looking for basement spaces at various Metro stations and had in fact toured many stations like Byappanahalli and MG Road that have enough basement space. The e-commerce giant is in the process of looking for space for setting up its back-end office.

Earlier in the first week of July, BMRCL MD Pradeep Singh Kharola had announced that the public transport company has carved out spaces for "startups and e-commerce companies to set up 'proper offices' inside the metro station.
