
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Ramesh Jigajinagi, minister of state for central drinking water supply and sanitation, chief minister Siddaramaiah said that the state government had decided to prepare comprehensive plan to source drinking water from all rivers and water bodies in the state.
Central assistance was required for the plan, the CM said, and Union minister Ramesh Jigajinagi has responded positively to the proposal.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Ramesh Jigajinagi assured that the Union government was ready to stand as guarantor for the monetary assistance sought by the state for the drinking water project being embarked upon by the state government.
The project is estimated to cost around ₹45,000 crore.
In the present year, expenditure of ₹298 crore has been planned and out of this ₹137 crore has already been released while the balance ₹161 Crore would also be disbursed, on submission of detailed action plan by the authorities concerned, the Union minister said.
