Bengaluru: The ownership of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) has been a battle between Bangalore University (BU) and Bangalore Central University (BCU) since trifurcation of BU in 2018. Now the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has also joined the tussle.
With the 2019-20 admissions in progress both BU and BCU want UVCE admissions to be conducted under their respective universities. BCU had written to the Karnataka Examinations Authority stating that UVCE admissions should be held under the university.
Authorities in BU have not taken this action of BCU very well. The higher officials of BU claim the ownership of UVCE stating that the varsity had been under BU and they say that it should continue to be under the university.

While some experts suggested that UVCE should be made autonomous the lack of faculty members might hinder this process. Several students and parents have approached the university seeking clarity on the matter. But there has been no change whatsoever.
A committee was formed to look into the trifurcation of Bangalore University. It made a suggestion that UVCE be shifted to BU’s Jnanabharathi campus. But protests by several eminent alumni stalled the process.
At present UVCE holds 550 undergraduate and 350 postgraduate seats.
