Lalbagh’s new Sunken Garden to wow tourists, walkers

The Lalbagh botanical garden in Bengaluru which has theme-based Bonsai and Cacti gardens will now have another gem. In few weeks time, Sunken Garden will come up in two acres of Lalbagh near the west gate area. Orchids, lotus, ferns and plants grown in cold region will be grown here  

Bengaluru: The low-lying areas and neglected parts of the west gate side of the historic Lalbagh Botanical Gardens will become a centre of attraction in coming weeks as the authorities have been working on a new theme-based garden.

A low-lying two-acre area has been converted into Sunken Garden. The authorities have added sprayers, sprinkler system to keep the place moist. According to the director of Lalbagh, Jagadish, orchids, ferns, lotus and other plants which are found in cold and hilly regions like Malnad and Darjeeling will be grown at Sunken Garden. The temperature will always be lower in this part of Lalbagh and will attract tourists and walkers, he added.
