Kerala Shocker: Mother of the abused child booked

May 14, 2018, 4:48 PM IST

A day after the shocking CCTV visuals showed a 10-year-old child being molested by a 60-year-old man inside a movie theatre; the child’s mother has been booked. This has come after the mother, who was there at the time of the crime, confessed that the molestation took place with her consent.

The visuals of the incident which happened on April 18, came as a shocker as it shows Moideen Kutty, the prime accused abusing the girl through the duration of the movie in the presence of her mother who sat there without intervening. The accused was arrested on Saturday evening and a case under the POCSO Act and Section 354 of IPC has been registered.

During the interrogation, it was revealed by Moideen Kutty that he and the child’s mother have known each other for a long time and that they were staying in a rented lodge that was owned by the accused. There have been reports suggesting that the woman’s family did not approve of her links with Moideen Kutty. The accused had earlier claimed that he had not assaulted the victim and even the mother had said that she was not aware of the assault and knew only after she saw the visuals.

The involvement of the child’s mother has strengthened the suspicion that the victim might have been subjected to assault in the past as she has gone ahead to say that the child was in the first place, taken to the cinema hall with this purpose.

The child was shifted to Nirbhaya Sister Home at Malappuram under the protection of Childline authorities and allegedly, it was the first time that the child underwent sexual abuse.

The laxity of the cops’ in the case has also raised eyebrows as even after a complaint was lodged by the Childline authorities on April 28, a delay in taking proper action was seen.  Local activists and Childline officers have come down heavily on the police officers and it is likely that Changaramkulam sub-inspector KG Baby, who is under suspension, might have a case registered against him.
