What is wrong in praying for Dileep, asks Kerala priest

A priest has landed in controversy after referring to actor Dileep during a prayer meeting conducted at Church. Fr. Andrews Palliparambil is alleged to have requested believers to pray for Dileep, during a prayer meeting. 

However, the priest has now come up with an explanation that he did not name the actor particularly. Palliparambil said that he was just mentioning the names of different persons, especially celebrities, who found peace in religion. 

The priest also said that he had mentioned the names of actress Mohini and cricketer S Sreesanth along with Dileep during his talk. 

There were reports that Dileep was reading Bible while in jail. His name was mentioned to explain to believers that like the actor, everyone should turn to their faith, the priest said.

"I am of the opinion that Dileep should be punished if he had committed the crime. However, I did not ask anyone to pray for him. Is there any wrong in asking others to pray for him," the priest asked. 

"The accused in a prominent case is reading Bible at the jail. He had revealed everything to a nun who visited him in prison. Both criminals and innocents are there in prison. We should wait till the verdict is out. However, this particular person landed in jail under exceptional circumstances and is spending time reading Bible. Every one of you should turn to your faith under difficult situations," the father had said.
