UDF candidate D Vijayakumar says his party will not win Chengannur by-election

Synopsis

D Vijayakumar said the party and its activists have failed in campaigning. The booth functioning was terrible in many places. No specific promotions also were done.

Chengannur by-election results will be declared tomorrow( May 31). UDF candidate D Vijaykumar has admitted defeat even before the announcement of the results. D Vijayakumar said the party and its activists have failed in campaigning. The booth functioning was terrible in many places. No specific promotions also were done. The leaders stood in many places, but the party workers didn't pay any interest in campaigning. He said that all party members were not sincere in their hard work, so he can sense a feeling of loss for the UDF.

The by-election was announced due to the death of KK Nair, who had won the Chengannur election in 2016. Even before the Election Commission decided the dates for bypoll, the LDF, UDF and BJP had declared their candidates for the constituency.

More importantly, for the ruling LDF government of Pinarayi Vijayan, it will be an opportunity to test whether there is any anti-incumbency prevailing, though it has been in power for about two years.

For the Congress, which received a beating in the 2016 polls, the contest will reveal whether it is on the path of recovery before the next year's Lok Sabha elections. For the BJP, a victory in Chengannur will give a much-needed boost to Shah's dream of stepping into Kerala.
