Synopsis

Krishnendu (21) who hails from Kunnamkulam near Thrissur conned 83 job seekers She approached her victims through social media platforms and offered them jobs in the Gulf Krishnendu is a fashion design graduate and has been working at a firm in Bangalore

A young woman was arrested by the police in Kochi on Saturday, along with her accomplice, for duping around Rs 45 lakh by offering people jobs abroad.

Krishnendu (21) who hails from Kunnamkulam near Thrissur conned 83 job seekers across the country, including both acquaintances and strangers, with the help of Puthukkad native Jinson (27). The two were arrested and brought to the Palarivattom police station on Saturday, before being remanded in judicial custody.

Krishnendu has a degree in fashion designing and has been working at a firm in Bangalore, while Jinson used to work as a salesman in a jewellery in the city. The two met a few years ago and became close.

The con job started with Krishnendu collecting money from some of Jinson's friends by offering them jobs in the Gulf after convincing them she knew some recruiters based out of Sharjah. With the extorted money helping them lead a luxurious life, the fraud became more elaborate and Jinson joined in on the act.

After setting up a convincing Facebook profile, Krishnendu started approaching people through Facebook and WhatsApp, and offered them jobs in a fashion design firm in Sharjah. She asked each person to deposit Rs 53,000 to bank accounts held by either Krishnendu or Jinson to book their slots. Several job aspirants fell for the fraud and the two managed to extort money from 83 persons in total.

Krishnendu ran out of luck when one of the victims filed a complaint at the Palarivattom station as there was no response for months. Police officials rang up Krishnendu by posing as job seeker from Palarivattom and managed to convince them to come from to Kochi for a direct chat before the money is handed over. Krishnendu and Jinson reached Kochi from Bangalore on Saturday morning for the same and were nabbed by the cops.
