Synopsis

Court said the prosecution failed to prove Oommen Chandy's involvement The court annulled an ex-parte order which ordered respondents to pay ₹1.6 crore to Kuruvilla The decision was given in a petition filed by Bengaluru based industrialist M K Kuruvilla

A court in Bengaluru acquitted former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a case related to the Solar Scam case. The high-profile case had landed the then UDF government in trouble after it was alleged that the Congress leaders, including the Chief Minister, were involved in the scam.

The court pronounced the decision in a petition filed by Bengaluru based industrialist M K Kuruvilla. He had alleged that six persons, including Oommen Chandy, had duped money from him.

The court annulled an ex-parte order in which the respondents were told to pay ₹1.6 crore to Kuruvilla. Following the ex-parte order, Chandy approached court that the verdict was given without hearing his side.

The industrialist had earlier alleged that he was served a different affidavit and not the one filed in the court. Pronouncing the statement, the bench said that the prosecution failed to prove Chandy's involvement in the case. The case against other five respondents will remain.

Meanwhile, the commission that probed the scam in Kerala has submitted its report to the Chief Minister.
