In a shocking incident, remains of a dead rat was found in the water supplied by the Kozhikode beach general hospital to the patients. 

The carcass of the rat was found in the water the hospital supplied to a ward, where 30 dengue and two H1N1 patients were admitted.

A patient’s relative noticed the remains of the rat and informed nurses and other staff at the hospital but they played down the incident. Later, when she raised the issue with a doctor, he reportedly mocked the entire incident and asked them to use the water after removing the rat.

In an inspection conducted by patients' relatives, it was found that the water tank at the hospital contained dirt, rust and mosquito eggs. It was evident that the tank was not cleaned in months. Congress activists gheraoed the hospital authorities following the incident.

Despite being one of the most frequented hospitals in Kozhikode, similar incidents have been reported from beach general hospital in thepast as well. Last year, the hospital canteen closed down after people found blades and insects in the food.
