Police brutality: Cop throws lathi at biker, injures him badly

Synopsis

The youth fell down and hit his head on the road He was unconscious for over an hour

A youth suffered serious head injuries when a police officer threw lathi at him during vehicle inspection at Vallikunnam near Kayamkulam on Saturday night.

 

The injured has been identified as Nissam, 22, from Elippakkulam. Civil police officer V Kannan of the Valikkunnam police station has been suspended, in connection with the incident.

 

According to the preliminary report submitted by the Chengannur DySP,  Kannan threw his lathi at Nissam when the latter tried to  turn his bike and get away after spotting the vehicle inspection near Vallikkunnam.

 

The lathi struck Nisam, and he fell down and hit his head on the road. He was first taken to Kayamkulam government hospital and then to Alappuzha Medical College. He was unconscious for over an hour.

 

Some locals, who gathered at the hospital, turned against the cops and shouted slogans against police brutality.

 

A detailed probe has been ordered into the incident.
