Ornaments worth ₹1.70 crore stolen from jewellery outlet

Synopsis

Gold and silver ornaments worth over ₹1.70 crore were stolen from a jewelery in Thrissur. Cash to the tune of ₹8 lakhs is also missing from the store.

 

An unidentified gang broke into a jewellery outlet in Thrissur early today on April 2 and decamped with cash to the tune of ₹8 lakhs, besides gold and silver ornaments worth over ₹1.70 crore, police said.

 

The incident came to light this morning after locals noticed the shutter of the shop broken open and informed the owner, they said.

 

The boxes, in which the jewels had been kept, were found abandoned in a nearby place later, they added.
