Synopsis

In the charge sheet submitted at the court, the police says that Cadell Jeansen Raja was completely sane when he killed his family Earlier, a medical report submitted at the court had stated that Cadell was not mentally stable, and hence unfit to face trial However, the police have now submitted that the suspect had a sound mind at the time of the murders

The police have told a court in Thiruvananthapuram that Nanthancode killings suspect Cadell Jeansen Raja was of a “sound mind” when he murdered four members of his family back in April.

In the charge sheet submitted at the first class judicial magistrate court in Vanchiyoor, the police says that Cadell, 29, the sole accused in the murder, was completely sane when he killed his parents, sister and blind aunt.

Nanthancode psychopath: Why did Cadell Jeansen kill his own family in cold blood?

Earlier, a medical report submitted at the court had stated that Cadell was not mentally stable, and hence unfit to face trial. However, the police have now submitted that Cadell had a sound mind at the time of the murders, according to a Hindu report. Special prosecutor Dileep Sathyan will represent the state side in the case.

The chargesheet claims that Cadell behaved rationally even after committing the murders. When the housemaid and a neighbour asked him about the whereabouts of his family, he told them they had all gone to Ooty and also explained the burns on his hands as an accident suffered while disposing garbage.

The suspect invited his parents, sister and aunt one at a time to his room and murdered them with a carpenter’s axe purchased online. The killings had drawn widespread public attention following Cadell’s initial comment that he was into satanic worship. In his statement to the police, Cadell said he was attempting to "free the soul from body" using a technique called as 'astral projection'.
