According to the postmortem report, the elephant died due to internal bleeding caused due to injuries The elephant, popularly called Chillikomban, had strayed into inhabited areas and was hit using the earthmover The driver and the vehicle have now been taken into custody

A wild elephant died in Munnar on Tuesday after a man rammed it with an earthmover.

The unfortunate incident took place near Chenduvara. According to the postmortem report, the elephant died due to internal bleeding caused due to injuries.

The elephant, popularly known as Chillikomban, had strayed into inhabited areas on Monday and one of the locals tried to ward it off using the earthmover. The act was caught on video and shared widely on social media platforms.

Chillikomban was then found dead near a plantation of the Chenduvarai estate factory under Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Ltd on Tuesday evening. Forest department officials believe that while the man tried to drive away elephant using the earthmover, the machine could have hit the animal with force.

The driver and the vehicle have now been taken into custody. Animal activists have come out slamming the incident.
