Mother brands nine-year-old for stealing ₹10

In a brutal incident, a mother inflicted burn injuries on her nine-year-old son for allegedly stealing ₹10 to buy puffs (a snack). The incident came to light after neighbours alerted Childline authorities on hearing the cries of the boy. 

The boy, from Perumpallychira in Thodupuzha, suffered serious burn injuries on the face, limbs and stomach. The Child Welfare Committee officials said the mother used a burning firewood to inflict the injuries. The boy told officials that his mother Remya and mother Binu used to torture him. 

He was admitted to Thodupuzha hospital. Remya told police that she aimed to punish her son to make sure that he won't steal again. The police have registered a case against mother under Juvenile Justice Law.
