MM Mani row: Kerala Assembly disrupted for the second day

Opposition leaders interrupted MM Mani and shouted slogans against him CM Pinarayi Vijayan defended Mani in the Assembly once again

The Kerala Assembly was disrupted for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as the Congress-led opposition demanded power minister MM Mani's resignation for his controversial remarks on women plantation workers.

Mani’s recent comment that members of Penbilai Orumai, the women plantation workers collective in Munnar, were engaged in immoral activities while referring to the time they staged a protest a few years ago, had snowballed into a major controversy and drew flak from several quarters.

Leader of opposition Ramesh Chennithala and Congress legislator VD Sateeshan said the unity and collective responsibility of the LDF government have disappeared with the CPM and CPI ministers differing on every issue.

Opposition leaders interrupted Mani and shouted slogans against him while he was replying to a query during question hour.  The Congress had decided that none of its members would ask questions to Mani.

Congress has been raising the pitch against Mani demanding his resignation. The Assembly proceedings were disrupted on Monday as well.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan defended Mani in the Assembly once again.
