At a time when the stance of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) in the actress attack case is widely criticised, a video explaining the history of the Association has emerged on social media.

Actor-director Balachandra Menon has uploaded a Youtube video explaining that it was he who named the organisation 'AMMA.' He also states that in the initial days, even Mammootty and Mohanlal were only viewers and had no role in the administration. "They always think twice before saying anything and this might be the reason why both remained silent during the press meet after AMMA general body," he said.

"It is necessary to remind people about the history time and again. Murali and Venu Nagavally started the discussions and asked me to join their initiative. It was me who suggested the name AMMA," Menon said.

The senior artist also said that he had been the secretary of the Association for six months. "AMMA was engaged in various charitable actions, but now it has become an organisation that just listens to certain persons. However, the Association did not do anything for me even when I was fighting with the disease," he said.

Menon also said that he feels sad to hear that people want to rename it as Achan.

There are rumours that actor Innocent, who is the president of AMMA has proposed to resign and there is a chance for Menon to get to the seat.
