In a major accusation, actor-turned-politician KB Ganesh Kumar has alleged that Mammootty tried to expel Dileep from AMMA after his arrest in order to please Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) had suspended Dileep from its primary membership on July 11, a day after he was arrested on charges of conspiracy in the actress attack case. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Mammootty's residence in Kochi.
The High Court granted Dileep bail on Tuesday, 85 days after his arrest. Ganesh had backed Dileep before and after his arrest. The Pathanapuram MLA had visited the actor at the Aluva sub-jail last month and also made a public plea to the people in the film industry to come out supporting Dileep. And the legislator has now put the spotlight on Prithviraj and Mammootty.
"Mammootty said that Dileep's was expelled from AMMA. However, it is not possible as per the organisation's rules. Dileep can be suspended from the association at best but only after a detailed inquiry conducted by a disciplinary committee," reports quoted Ganesh as saying.
“I think Mammootty was trying to please Prithviraj by making that statement. Now it is up to Dileep to decide whether he would like to be part of AMMA or not. If I was in his place, I would not join AMMA or any association that ousted him,” he added.
Mammootty, Mohanlal, Devan and young actors Prithviraj, Asif Ali and Remya Nambeesan had taken part in the meeting at Mammootty's residence on July 11. Sources had stated that Prithviraj was very vocal in the meeting and stood firm in his demand to oust Dileep.
After the meeting, Mammootty, Mohanlal and Prithviraj appeared before journalists waiting outside the house, confirming Dileep's ouster and handed over a press release on the decision to media organisations.
